Prescriptions

Repeat prescriptions can be obtained by calling your preferred pharmacy. When your prescription is ready it will be available for collection at your chosen pharmacy.

Please be aware the practice does not take prescription requests over the telephone, however we do accept written requests.

It is important to ensure your prescription is current and consult your healthcare provider for any concerns.

One off prescription may also be suitable to use our online forms.

New patients

In order to register with the practice you should bring two forms of I.D, and know your NHS number.

The receptionist will ask you to fill in a medical questionnaire and will offer you a registration medical appointment, in which you will have to provide a urine sample.

Appointments

Routine appointments can be booked in advance with the practice nurses, nurse practitioners and registrar doctors.

In the case of certain symptoms it may be more convenient to practice self-care.

Our practice

Avenue Villa Surgery aims to provide good quality accessible family health care. We provide a range of services that allows us to reflect your needs, both health and social care.

Our patients’ needs are at the heart of everything we do, so our website has been designed to make it easy for you to gain instant access to the information you need. As well as specific practice details such as opening hours and register, you’ll find a wealth of useful pages covering a wide range of health issues along with links to other relevant medical organisations. Thank you for choosing Avenue Villa Surgery.

Urgent Appointments

Patients wishing an appointment for a pressing ailment should call the practice at 8.30 onwards. When your call is taken you will be offered an appointment or a call back from a doctor who will assess your symptoms and take appropriate action.

Emergency appointments are by their nature allocated at short notice. This means it is unlikely that you will be able to see the doctor of your choice, however, we will endeavour to protect continuity of care as far as possible.

We endeavour to minimise patient waiting times to see a doctor but there are occasions, especially if you are an extra to a surgery that you may encounter a longer than expected wait.

Cancellations

We know people forget things, cancelling GP appointments being one of them.

Remember to cancel your appointment if you don’t need it.

If you cannot attend an appointment for whatever reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.

Health advice and self-help

Flu vaccinations

It is recommended that you consider getting the flu vaccine to help safeguard yourself from serious illness particularly from those in vulnerable groups.

Please don’t hesitate to ask for more information on how a flu vaccine can benefit you.

Self-help and self-care

We only have enough appointments to help those who really need us.

Ask yourself, can you treat yourself at home? Do you really need to see a GP?

Online symptom checker

NHS 111 has created a simple and easy to use online symptom checker.

Take a look at how you can potentially treat minor conditions without the need for a GP appointment

Reviews and procedures

We continually carry our reviews and procedures in our surgery, in the aim of supporting our patient’s ongoing health and wellbeing.
